I love this picture! It is so typical. I recently had my house painted and we had the mirrors leaving against the wall on the floor and the reactions were hysterical. Emma would "dance" in front of the mirror and Spencer would bark at the puppy in t…

Hi Patti! I have added one photo with more to come! I love all of yours! Lucy would dress up but Beau would be a challenge! I'm at work so this will be short. Lucy goes for a pre-birth visit, I guess you could call it that, but so far, all is well! No, I'm not sure how many, my guess is 5-6---I have helped our labs with 3 deliveries. Yes it is work, but I don't look at it as such. Our lab had mastitis (breast/milk infection), had to hand feed until on solids. All lived out of all 3 litters! 12,13 and 12! Yep, another reason why I went smaller! So I guess you could say I'm ready. More later--lisa

Hi Patti! Sorry I have been out of touch for awhile! Two things, the holidays, and now my computer is Kaput! So, I'm using the one at work--on my lunch hr.---but don't have time everyday. Working on getting a new one, so bear with me.
Update! We have had a successfull breeding! Lucy is expecting in 11 days! She has a vet visit this wkend. He wants to see her right before she delivers. All is well so far--the hard part is coming! I am so excited! I have the house all ready for her and whatever comes! Crates, towels, blankets, beds, food, toys, ---I'm using an old mesh sided playpen for her whelping box! So say a prayer for us! I'll keep you posted!More Later, Lisa

Hi Patti!
I knew they would love it! I can't wait to "work less and dog more" myself! I think I would have a house full of Cavs if I could! They are so loving! Beau gives me a hug, literally a hug, paws up around my neck Cav hug, when I get home in the afternoons. I have to tell you what our Sadie, the lab, did the other night---too sweet---we have this little "cutie dog toy bucket" in the den we keep with all of the chew toys in--Rob and I were "into" a show on the history channel the other night---we did not give Lucy and Beau their regular attention that they demand in our presence, so they began to chew and tug on Sadie---she is older, and not "into" playing at night, so she did what any mother would do---she got up, went to the toy box, got a chew toy for Beau, brought it to him, then back to get one for Lucy, gave it to her, and then went back to lay down on her bed! My husband and I couldn't believe it! She did what she has seen me do----get them occupied when I have something to do! Can you believe that! Dogs are so smart! I just had to brag! Now we know she definitely likes to look after them!
Well Patti, I have to get back to work. I haven't written in a while because I have been busy at work--I'm on lunch time now! So more later---keep in touch--Sincerely, Lisa--Hey with the nice weather, consider taking them to the lakefront---we may be going Sun. ! They love the ride to Mandeville--and the lake is so pretty--Lots of people and nice area for the dogs to walk and socialize!! Lunch at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar is a great stop--on corner of Girod and the Lakefront---inexpensive food, and they allow dogs on the outside deck! Check it out!! A fun day! later---Lisa

riding can be a challenge! They want to be in your lap all of the time. i use a seat cover that attaches to my headrest. They finally settle down after the first few miles. I use harnesses on both, in place of a collar--much more comfortable! To them. So I can just hook the seatbelt under it and they are pretty safe. AKC suggest crates. We have done that too---be prepared for lots of whinning!
Yep, always keep benedryl on hand--liquid or tabs--ask your vet for the proper dosage for your dog, mine states one 25mg tab. 3x's daily for allergies, but I'm not sure what it is for a sting--probably a stronger one time dose. It could be a lifesaver. Maybe you could let them roam the yard when it gets a little cooler, bad bugs aren't around so much then. They love to run! The more I take mine places the more social they become. You would be surprised how often you can take them someplace. I can't wait for cooler weather---they love to go riding and visiting the family. Well, you have a great week. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks, Lisa

Good Morning Patti!
I will be 55 in Nov.! What a coincidence! Lucy was born in Nov. and Beau Dec. --even our dogs are close to our birthday--my husband's is in Dec.- get this---our lab, Sadie, was born on his birthday--you're right, God has a way of telling us when it's time. We had just lost our female lab of 13 yrs, the mother of all 3 of our lab litters that my son and I raised. We waited a while, my husband said no more--but my daughter is the one who insisted--we have never been dogless long--she found Sadie, the last of the litter--someone had even put a deposit down for her, but changed their mind at the last minute--luckey for us, the right place the right time, and we have the best lab ever! I thought about getting into breeding labs at one time. My son lived at home until he married at 29--Big litters are hard to maintain, we had good hunting stock, everyone in my family hunts, except me---but without my son at home, well I chose not to do it on my own. I had a Maltese for 14 yrs. she had 2 AKC litters. I got her when my children were only 3&5--and when I started thinking back on that time, it was happy for all of us. So when the grandkids came along, well, I started looking at breeds and chose the Cav. Not too little, not too big, no big grooming problem, costly, but it was for the grandkids, right? So I saved up and got Lucy and then you know the rest of the story.
During the storms,we stayed at home. Gustav was the worst for us. Scary, very scary. But, Lord willing, we made it through with minor damage. So Patti, a storm can take away a lot of things, but your home is really where you are. Not the building your are in. We are faced with challenges all the time, I think they are put in our path for a reason. You could almost say, the storm brought you to your Cavs! And all of the love that comes with them. As I sit here at the computer, I only have to look behind me, see 3 loving animals laying on the floor by me, and my heart warms. Some would say your crazy for having 3 dogs in a house---I say you need to try it!
Yes, the hair can be a problem. My vet, as I said earlier, says allergies are a big problem , especially for sm. dogs, in Louisiana. Cleaning products can be a cause too. Food, shampoo, etc. So we use a hypoallergenic shampoo that doesn't wash off their Advantage Multi, I wash their bedding weekly, and I keep them on the Z/D Ultra. Occasionaly they all get a Benedryl! When Beau and Lucy get "teary eyes", I give them one 25 mg. tab 2-3 times a day.(Per my vet) Sounds like a lot--but as he told me dogs put out 3-5 times the histamines, the stuff that causes them stress, hair loss, sneezing, itching, then humans do.So if that gets started, things in their little body can be upset. And a little Benadry puts in back in order. It may sound like a lot of care, but it's no more than we have ever done for any other dog, even strays that we have had.
Maybe your friend would like to see Mr. Brooks' tri.! He is beautiful! Tell her if she has a ruby for sale, I would love to look at it. Is it male or female? Mr. Brooks is so nice. He loves to talk about his dogs. Let me know if she is interested. That is why I love this website. So much info, right here. I'm so glad to see more Cav owners in the south- close to home. My mother-in -laws' father is in a nursing home in Metairie! He just had his 104th birthday! His only health problem is he can't see much and his hearing is almost gone! But what can you expect at that age! Anyway, her sister lives there also. And nieciees too! so we visit from time to time. I go to the lakefront in Mandeville with a good friend of mine, she lives in Covington. I bring th dogs and we go to Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar for the fish tacos! You can bring the dogs there! They even bring out a water bowl for them. (They are permitted on the deck part only)-I haven't brought both to the restaurant, just Lucy, she was so well behaved, Beau may get a chance this fall. You see, with a husband that hunts, a lot, I go on day trips by myself, well with the dogs when I can. So maybe we can meet up at Lucy's one day. The dogs love the lakefront! I keep them leashed, they have some BIG dogs out there, but they also enjoy the ride. I wish they allowed them on the Trace. I ride bicycles also. The "old fashioned kind"--believe me, at 55, well I could be in better shape, but I love to cook and eat what I cook! So the cooler weather brings out the , craving ( what is the french word, onvee, may have to ck the spelling on that one) for a nice walk or road trip as I call it! My body nor I (menopausal)like the heat! It's all I can do to keep the flower beds cleaned up! LOL!
Well, I have to go to work today. Tues. I do administrative wk. only. I work for a pediatric dentist here in Baton Rouge. No pts. on Tues., Doc is in Gonzales! We have several dog lovers at work. Get this ,during the storm, and after, the office had A/C, my doc offered to let us bring our dogs for comfort! Don't freak, in the back conference rm and storage area only! He has labs. The office mgr. has a Westie, one girl has a minpin, another a rat terrier, another a boxer! And on Fri. we sometimes bring them to work! No pts. again--mine just like to sit in my office. Funny, they are one of the few breeds I know that just want to be by you! You don't HAVE to hold them --just be by them. so I will wait to hear back from you on your friend with the ruby. I love chatting about my dogs as you can see, and I love hearing from others. I am bad about checking email though. Sometimes, I'm just busy and can't. So if ever I take a few days to get back, not to worry, in time I will, just busy. Take care---Lisa

Hi Patti! So sorry to hear about your nephews dog. Loss is always hard to accept. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, so maybe that started the problems with the kidneys.
I have to watch my Beau--he will get into stuff, not eat it, but tear it in little pieces. So we have plenty of toys for him! and an occasional rawhide, with supervision. He is the challenge one! Maybe it is just the difference between male and female--who knows--but we still love him to death.
I purchased both of my Cavs from Shannon Skopik at Courtyard Cavaliers. They have a website. She,her sister, and mom all have them. They are all breeders. We were so pleased with Lucy, I went back to her for Beau. Shannon lives in the Woodlands, just outside of Houston. Her husband is a pilot, for now they call Houston home and are based there. They got their original Cavs, from Ireland. She keeps imaculate records on all of them. So we were sure that Lucy and Beau would be compatible to breed. Lucy and Beau have completely different parents and grandparents, and great grand parents! She still knows and keeps up with the owners of her original pair. So I am confident that I have a good bloodline. and as far as we know, no major health problems. Lucy's parents were both blens, but Beau's mom was a tri and his Dad a Blen. So maybe, I could have both. I will not breed Lucy until the vet gives me the all OK sign. Lucy can be hip and eye certified at 2 yrs of age. I may do that. It requires sedation for an xray, and other things, so I'm looking into it but have not decided. I do know of a gentleman here, Mr. Cleve Brooks, in Baton Rouge--he has tris and blens---he is a professor at LSU. He just didn't have any when I was looking. He owns 5 or 6! His wife died recently---as he says it was her dream to breed---so now he does it alone. They fill the void for him. He is so nice. I have met him. He is looking for a ruby. One day, I may get a ruby! I love them!
Our Lab, Sadie (7 yrs. old)-has to have Hill Prescription Z/D Ultra. So we keep a stock too! Actually, they were all eating each others food, so now, they all get it! Beau had to eat his puppy chow (Eukanauba) for a while, but after 8 mths, our vet, Michael Whitlock, said they could all go to the same. sometimes i heat a little chicken broth and pour it over Lucy and Beau's! A treat! It also helps with the shedding. It is expensive, but worth it. They like the dried. They also have treats, hypoallergenic! they like those too! Some of the same symptoms you described could also be allergies! Especially down south!! Sadie even has to have a Benadryl tab during certain times of the yr.! Like people! But it works! Less hair shed and less poop too! I have found it at Petsmart--the price is the same at the vets. But that gives me two places. You do have to show a prescription card to purchase it at Petsmart.
Well, I have to run-on my lunch hr. --take care--kiss Emma and Spencer---let me guess, Spencer is the tri? Emma the blenhiem? Let me know--love the pics. I am 55 yrs. old, not raised w/computers, learning everyday--so I have to learn and get newer stuff before I can post pics. But I'm working on that too! ---more later, lisa

Patti---nice to hear from you. You're right--two's company to each other. Lucy was my first, she made friends with our 7 yr. old Lab, Sadie right away. But things just seemed a little "off" after a yr. So I contacted the breeder I got Lucy from, and the next time she had a male, breeder compatible with Lucy, she gave me a call and there was Beau! He has been our "challenge child" so to speak, we were spoiled w/ Lucy, but as he matures, he is coming along just fine!
I love the bell idea! Makes you say why didn't I think of that---Lucy comes to you and does her "whine"--Beau starts sniffing Everything when he has to go out. The bell may be something I can try--Cavs are so smart--you can always teach them something! But yes, Lucy loves the company! I love when they run around like 2 cats chasing each other. Too funny!
Both of ours are in good health. As far as we know, no problems in the background either. I bought Lucy from a small breeder in Texas, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get Spencer and Emma? Our Beau looks like your Blenhiem. Lucy has a shorter nose. Beau has the kissing spot, Lucy has a half one! Beau's mom was a tri! Beautiful!
I could talk all day--but I have things to do and it is going to do nothing but rain all wkend, so I have to "play" with the dogs or they get bored and into trouble. Take care--more later, lisa
