- Amanda~thank you for the well wishes on the job! You wouldn't believe how nervous I was yesterday! Of course, I can laugh about it now :) Talked to Gina, and she is anxiously waiting Addy's babies. She said she offered to talk you through it on the phone. She's just a Godsend, isn't she? She was also telling me about her new babies. One of them is a tri female. - Amanda, I'm glad that you have found a solution for your babies to their flea problem. It certainly makes you feel helpless because the dogs seem to suffer so much! I'll give your combo a try. - Hi Amanda, yes it is true it certainly is hectic for the first few weeks, you get little sleep from what I hear, when puppies are so young. But you can only wait it out as you say, time will tell. I am going to get some good reading material and would love to have some of your suggestions, but no rush, whenever you have the time. In the meantime their is quite a bit out there online, information on the subject, people on message boards talking on the subject etc. By the way, I did know you should test for knees and hips, the check eyes, but is it really necessary to test for the heart at this age. I imagine this would be very expensive. During my vet visits for their health examination, they listened to our pets heart, and said all sounds fine. Of course they are young and healthy, hope that continues as they get older. Our neighbor had a ruby spaniel who passed away at age 7, due to problems with his heart. Her advice to me was not to take them for too long a walks, do you think this advice has any merit where this breed is concerned? Cavalier hugs Tina

- Hi Amanda, well it certainly sounds like you have it all under control, things do not always go according to plan do they? We had a close call once or twice, it can happen so quickly, lol. The tie can last for a lengthy session too, or only a few minutes I heard and it isn't advisable to interfere once they have started, you don't want the couple to hurt themselves I read. So basically I didn't allow them together in the same room if I could help it. They do have their more fertile days, so it is entirely possible that the one time was not one of them, while it does only take one time, their is much more chance if they are breeding several times I imagine. I guess you will know soon enough with the sonogram. Can they really detect the babies that soon? At 5 weeks their are some signs, swollen mammory glands, have you noticed these changes? We thought Lori showed false pregnancy, the breasts were slightly swollen, the first week after she came off heat, but that went away. Of course your girl Addy came into hers earlier, our Lori came to heat on May 18th, I was worried about an accident myself, so I marked the first day, but thankfully that didn't happen as I would not be prepared. You have a background working in the veterinary field so I'm sure you have more confidence than I do, as I have my own concerns about Lori's health going through pregnancy and whelping. So, I do have to weigh and consider risks, and of course I will need advice and help from our Vet every step of the way. It can be overwhelming, the more I read, the more anxious I become so many things to watch for, it sure would be nice to have a mentor, I really like our vet, she is a little young but very sweet and caring. Thanks again, Amanda, for listening, "the dummy book" may be very helpful, lol. they do tend to simplify the info to the point of confusion sometimes. Addy is a lucky girl, she is going to have a beautiful whelping box, would love to hear the news either way, thanks. Cavalier hugs
