Hi Autumn, it looks like you have a really fun idea here. I am not in MO, so I can't participate, but I have people here that would like to do something like this, too.

I see you are looking for your first Cavalier. I hope you are able to avoid the disappointment we faced when we bought our first one. I thought we were buying from a good breeder, but it turns out we were wrong. I had hoped to do some kind of activity like Agility with her, but her legs are not strong enough for it. You need to be sure you buy your dog from a dedicated breeder that shows their dogs in conformation and health tests for genetic problems. Even though you probably do not want a show dog, it is important that the parents were shown because the judge looks for correct form and function in the dog's build. The judge watches movement and checks the bite to help decide whether the dog is suitable for breeding. People that don't show their dogs are just cutting expenses. They may charge less for a dog, but you may end up having to get a very expensive operation to repair knees so the dog can walk without pain. An AKC or CKCSC registry is the only one I recommend. Most other registries are formed to give commercial and casual breeders credibility.

You can also rescue a cavalier. Petfinder.com, ACKCSC.org has a rescue, Lucky Star Rescue is JUST for cavaliers and I know they have lots. CKCSC.org also has a rescue. Good luck, I know you will enjoy your dog.
