H E L P my Cavalier sheds so much that I can't keep up with it despite daily brushing with the "Furminator" grooming tool.  My groomer says it will ruin his coat. Anyopinions would be very appreciated.

Daily brushing and combing with
a firm bristle brush is recommended on your king charles spaniel to ensure that
the coat does not get matted and that foreign objects,
such as grass and sticks, do not become entangled
in the feathering.
Using the furminator daily will make the dog "bald" under the top coat & nothing to insulate  I only use furminator once a month & use other brushes for daily  The shedding is frustrating - mine shed a lot too, esp when you're holding them, so I have a lot of tape wands or whatever they're called around the house  Some dogs like vacuuming....but doubt that will go over well w/these guys  Good luck, I know what you're going through

What is he eating? Diet can have a lot to do with shedding. Foods with fillers like wheat and corn can cause weak and brittle hair along with itchy and flaky skin. If he is already on a good food you can try adding omega 3 fatty acids to his food, like salmon oil. If you are already doing that too, well then you have a hairy boy :) The Furminator can ruin the coat by taking to much undercoat out and thinning it to a point where all that is left is top coat. You can still use it and it won't harm him, just be careful with it and don't OVER use it.

Try TrainPetDog.com Dog Supplies. That's where I usually buy my dog's shedding and grooming tools.

Go to my page & scroll down, there's a pic of Rocky w/snow clinging to him - not sure why pix didn't go to my album?  Having trouble navigating this site

Thank you everyone.  I stopped using the Furminator because it did truly remove his undercoat completely!!!!!  His coat was so thin I could see his pink skin UGH!  It's been a few months and his coat is again beautiful and I am adjusting to the reality that this ALMOST perfect pup will be high maintenance in the brushing dept.......He's worth it!  Thanks again I love this site.
