help selecting a new cav pup to pair with our chihuahua

hello cav experts and loving owners!

we have been researching the right breeder for many months. we are very happy with our choice so far and the litter of 6 pups is about 8 weeks old now. We are just a couple of weeks away from traveling to meet the breeder and select our new pup. Now we already have a 3 year old female chihuahua that is mellow, timid and sensitive. She is also dominant with most other dogs and likes her space although she is not aggressive and will just bark when she is setting her boundaries. I would love to hear what you guys think would be a good temperament pairing with the chihuaha! for one, we have heard that mixed gender is important. any words of wisdom?

We wanted to get him a friend so we got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Wesley, and they get along great. We brought Wesley home when he was 8 weeks old. Wesley is 14 pounds, fixed, and he is around 7 - 8 months old now. When Stanley has had enough of Wesley jumping on him and trying to get him to play Stanley will just give him a good growl and Wesley will leave him alone. The best advice I received was from our vet. Stanley is to be the pack leader of Wesley. Stanley eats before Wesley, goes outside before Wesley, etc. We (humans) are the pack leaders of our dogs so we eat before them, we step outside before them, etc. This has worked great for us. Stanley has taught Wesley how to be a good doggie and how to follow the rules of the house. We hung a bell on the doorknob and Wesley rings it when he and Stanley want to go outside to go potty. They are a great team. Good luck. PS: we have had boys and girls but we like having both boy puppies for some reason. We haven't done well with girls for some reason. We make sure we have them fixed to avoid them running in search of a female and we have had no problems. Our Cavalier loves to play fetch and knows sit, stay, leave it and come.
